Keene Bio

Deborah Keene, Ph.D.

2024-2028

Dr. Deborah Keene is an archaeological geologist who specializes in Southeastern US prehistory. For the past 19 years, she has been using her interdisciplinary background to teach, administer, and develop curricula and programming for the Blount Scholars Program at the University of Alabama. During her time with Blount, she has designed and implemented four upper-level seminar courses based on her academic background, redesigned the first-year liberal arts curriculum, founded an internship program, created a student mentor program, and established an alumni organization. As her office is in the Blount residence hall, she also assists incoming students with their transition to college on a daily basis. The program is selective, so she has a wealth of experience in recruitment and the application and interview process.
